Description

Fosfatidilserina Sharp-PS® is a dietary supplement containing the patented Sharp-PS® Phosphatidylserine to support memory and Central Nervous System action.

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a phospholipid, a natural component of cell membranes found in high amounts in the brain, where it contributes to cognitive function. The notoriety that Phosphatidylserine is gaining is basically due to its replenishing and nourishing effect on the central nervous system: it improves cognitive function and the transmission of nerve stimuli, as well as being an essential component of cell membranes, where it is required for the entry of nutrients and also for the expulsion of waste materials.

The chosen raw material patented Sharp-PS® uses a particularly concentrated form of phosphatidylserine, is obtained according to the highest quality standards from vegetable lecithin, and contains 80% high-purity phosphatidylserine. Sharp-PS® is a leading brand of phosphatidylserine, with clinical data demonstrating benefits for cognitive health (memory, attention, mood, recognition, learning), stress management, skin health and sports nutrition. Phosphatidylserine improves our ability to respond to stressors. Its presence affects our emotional state, motivation and mood tone, because it intervenes by promoting the release of four main neurotransmitters: serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine and acetylcholine.

Specifically, phosphatidylserine is a glycerophospholipid, consisting of two fatty acid molecules linked to a glycerol molecule and an ethanolamine phosphate molecule, and is present in the central nervous system and brain. Phosphatidylserine is known to easily cross the blood-brain barrier, reaching significant concentrations in the brain. It plays an essential role in the membranes of cells (especially neurons), the integrity and permeability of which it regulates. In fact, brain tissue has a high concentration of phosphatidylserine, a molecule capable of supporting and favouring the development of memory, concentration, learning and even neuroprotection.

It has also been shown that at the cellular level, phosphatidylserine boosts energy metabolism in all cells, but the content of this phospholipid decreases with age.

Precisely because phosphatidylserine maintains the integrity of cell membranes, its supplementation promotes ‘slow ageing’ between nerve intercellular connections, which maintain greater cognitive efficiency and promote a more relaxed state before and after moments of particular stress.

PS’s action is supported by the scientific literature with regard to neurodegenerative issues: it is the only ‘cerebral‘ supplement that has received the US FDA stamp of approval for the treatment of age-related cognitive decline.

Several double-blind studies also suggest that Phosphatidylserine may be useful in maintaining cognitive function and memory in elderly subjects. In addition, a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial conducted in children aged 4-14 years with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) concluded that supplementation with 100mg phosphatidylserine was able to produce significant improvements in ADHD symptoms by improving memory and mental performance in response to visual stimuli.

Our Advice

We recommend taking Phosphatidylserine Sharp-PS® preferably at one of your main meals.

Frequent doubts

  • Why is Phosphatidylserine taken as a supplement?

PS is taken as a supplement to improve cognitive function, memory and mood. It can also be taken to support nervous system health and to aid recovery after exercise.

  • If I need to recover after a period of stress can Phosphatidylserine Sharp-PS® help me?

Absolutely: Phosphatidylserine supports mental and physical recovery during periods of stress or where particularly reactive cognitive performance is required (such as students in exam sessions or stressful periods at work).

  • Can Phosphatidylserine reduce Cortisol levels when particularly stressed?

It would seem so: studies have shown the ability of this molecule to reduce cortisol levels, especially in athletes. However, this action still needs to be confirmed by further investigations.
